YMCA Summer Camp Olympics 2013

Last Friday I decided to turn my attention, and lens, from politics to children. Enter clever remark here.
Austin’s YMCA Summer Camp program hosted their annual Summer Olympic games at the sports field of The Austin School for the Deaf.
Each camp represented a different country just like the regular Olympics; however they were not competing against each other, they were just out to have some good ole’ fashion fun in the hot Texas sun. Enjoy!
P.S. My kiddos were Greece, hence the focus. 🙂

Randy and Kinsley – Sneak Peek

It was a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll; there was a whole lot of family and friends, and a whole lot of fun was had by all. We were lucky enough to document the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Yates on April 27, 2013.

Randy and Kinsley’s wedding was a day to remember, not only because the love between these two is so evident in their glances at one another, but because the details of the wedding were so impeccable.

This wedding party was overjoyed and full of energy throughout the day. Most of them dressed in cowboy boots for ease of walking and travel, giving the days’ festivities a casual edge that you don’t find in most weddings. This was the essence of the day: ease, excitement and fun. Randy and Kinsley were all smiles as they exchanged gifts while their wedding party dressed before the ceremony. She got Louboutins, he got a shotgun.

The ceremony site, canopied by trees and sunshine, was the perfect place for the couple to say their vows in the presence of friends and family. Kinsley rode into the ceremony on a horse-drawn carriage, greeted by “Here Comes to Bride” played by live bagpipes. This was a breathtaking entrance, and the evening’s departure of man and wife on a motorcycle with a side car was no less exciting.

The details at Bella Springs were beyond beautiful; from the place settings, to the Smore Bar, to the ampersand sign connecting Randy and Kinsley’s chairs at the dinner table. The guests welcomed the newlyweds to their after party, where Johnny Carino’s provided a delicious dinner and everyone headed to the bar to begin celebrating. The dance floor was flooded by 9:30.

We kept hearing how fortunate we were that it did not rain on Randy and Kinsley’s wedding day. There was a 50-60% chance throughout the day, and while we experienced a tiny drizzle en route to the ceremony, it did not rain. Our angels were watching over Kinsley and Randy- determined to let the details of the special day play out perfectly. It was just that, perfect, and we want to thank the two of you for giving us an all-access pass to share the day with you.

We wish you all the best!

Photos of the Week – 83rd legislative session

As some of you may or may not know, I am a photographer for the Texas House of Representatives.  What does that mean you may ask?  I am a photo journalistic, visual historian for the day-to-day events at the Texas State capitol–although some day’s events can be more interesting than others… 😉

So, that being said, on the heals of The State of the Union Address, I’d like to share a link to the work I and some other talented photographers have done over the first four weeks of Session.  And as always, regardless of which side of the aisle you prefer to sit, please enjoy these images for their artistic merit.
